*breaks the ice with the first entry* :D it's lame, i know.
james, i think adding excessive rules (like "it has to fit in with the season the image is from") puts a damper on a light-hearted contest. this is not Serious Business, and i think it's probably more important to have fun with it than have it "make sense". i have an inquiry, myself. :D if one wins (i'm totally not saying i will here; i normally suck at these contests) is there a time limit on when (or if) they can enter again in the future? *deletes and reposts because he forgot to respond to lbeth* >_> well, the write permissions are set on the submission topic, after all. i figure that's as good of an invitation to submit as any.

lbeth -- I put Friday originally because I wasn't sure I'd have it up as quickly as I did. Thanks for catching it; I'll change the date to Wednesday evening.
james -- If we allow multiple entries per person, the topic will scroll a lot. Since we're keeping track of the entries manually, I don't want to accidentally lose one person's entry because it scrolled off before we could capture it. Captions don't need to reflect what was actually going on in the series. This isn't serious! It's fun! :D ferret -- Right now, there's no time limit for when a caption contest winner can reenter the contest. Now, if the same person starts winning month after month, we might have to reevaluate that.

I forgot how this worked last time...
In the rules, it says, "When submissions are closed, a survey will be posted with all the valid entries in it. Simply vote for your favorite!" Does that mean if 100 people submit valid captions, we're going to have a survey with 100 different choices? Or is there going to be a process to whittle those down into a more manageable size before the survey is posted? That would be a rather large list to choose from if we receive a lot of entries. Or maybe we're just going to cross that bridge when we come to it?
2007-03-15 14:36:59
Well, I doubt we'll have 100 submissions, but if we do, we can post them all for voting. :D For now, anyway. Things can change as needed.
2007-03-16 10:37:57
Just use your judgement. :) I you want, you can PM it to me and I'll give you my opinion. :)

Haha Scot, that was almost mean. XD
Almost. >_> Poor Hammy. ;_; I like! *_*

nanami- This site is intended to be accessible by people of all ages. Please read the site's Terms of Service (linked at the bottom of this page) to help you determine what's acceptable. Unfortunately, I've had to delete your caption because I feel it's inappropriate for the general audience of the site. If it's not appropriate for the Amazing Race and Survivor, it's very likely that it's not appropriate here.
2007-04-01 19:56:03
Umm... for the voting, shouldn't you list the caption entries, and not who submitted it? One, so that people don't vote based on who it is, instead of the caption, and two, so that we can see the captions without having to go search through them in the contest topic?
2007-04-01 19:57:05
The survey wouldnt work with the caption entries. Some were just too long.
Since this is the first contest, we're still working out the kinks. Sorry for the trouble. :)
2007-04-01 23:11:16
What about making a document with all of the entries on it, and numbering them, then put the poll as the numbers? Then we could see all of the entries, and unless you remembered the caption from the caption topic, you wouldn't be able to play favorites?
2007-04-01 23:23:28
if people are going to play favorites, there's no real way around it. you could just tell your friend which comment you wrote. Creating all those files just to keep the lazy guy from cheating is more work then anyone needs to do. You're just going to have faith in the users. They not a bad crowd, a little misguided, but all in all, not a bad crowd at all. ;)
2007-04-02 00:54:49
My idea of using numbers instead of names was to avoid as much favoritism, but the main point was so that all of the captions were easy to access, without having to sort through the topic for all of them.

Congrats to
April's Caption Contest has now begun!
2007-04-08 07:10:34
Hmmm, I still get no image, both at home or work. I've tried www - www5, and none of them show it on my end.
Home = XP SP2, Firefox (latest version - not there right now to check) Work = XP SP2, IE 6.0.2900 Nothing appears in Firefox, and IE just gives me the red X placeholder. x_x;
2007-04-08 10:27:36
Weird, yea it works on beta fine. Should've tried that. x_x;
Thanks!
I hadn't told Jen that sync now only happens once a day unless I force it. Since signatures and customIcons are in the database they sync instantly and there is little need to sync the filesystems frequently.
www is a random server from www2-www5 (www1 is backup only). beta is now ONLY on backup (beta2-beta3 have been turned off, 4 & 5 never came up). So, please don't use beta unless you are actually testing. I will soon make a team for beta testers and require membership on the team to access beta, just because my DSL is so slow. 2007-04-28 08:42:13
It's correct. We'll open the results after voting has ended. Having the poll results visible during voting last time was an "oops." :)
2007-05-05 17:02:40
Congrats to
May's Caption Contest has now begun!
2007-05-10 13:52:22
... Sorry Lbeth, I just couldn't resist. XD
2007-08-07 16:12:14
Does anyone even realize that July's image does not show up in the Caption Contest topic, and that might be the reason no one captioned it??
2007-08-07 17:23:04
It doesn't show up for you Willow? o.o; I've checked multiple servers, and the picture shows up for me on all of them.
2007-08-07 18:51:07
It will only show up for me if I remove the 4 from the www4 image link in the header. I returned the header to how I found it originally just in case you wanted to shrink the image, as it does stretch things a little.
2007-08-07 23:12:37
The picture wasn't showing up for me at all. i think i fixed the header like hammy suggested. if anyone cant see the image now, let me know.
I also took the liberty of changing the image. The last one, i felt, could have produced too many adult captions. Augusts image is up. I'll adjust the calendar accordingly and make the announcement.
2007-08-08 11:22:03
Just a note for anyone who is wondering what happened to their previous month's caption. I took Jupiter's lead and I've cleaned up the forum by removing all the non-kudo earning posts. You shouldn't have to scroll down as much now to read the current month's captions. Anyone have any qualms with that?
2007-08-08 12:05:56
Until i can figure out how the previous images have been uploaded to a different location, i have to directly link the image to the image library. This means you'll have to be logged in before you can see the image. I'll contact Jen and see if i can't get the image uploaded properly like it has been in the past.
Until then, try this link and see if it opens the image for you. I'd hate for you not to be able to enter the contest. If that doesn't work, let me know, i'll find a way to make sure you can see it :).
2007-08-09 13:13:39
For what it's worth I can't see it either. I have 0 quota as well. The link above gives me this error:
Forbidden You don't have permission to access /crescent/image/fs/0/00/008.jpg on this server.
2007-08-10 14:49:00
At first, I couldn't see the image on www.sailormoon.org. Then I logged into www4.sailormoon.org and I did see it. After that, though, when I logged out and then logged into www.sailormoon.org, I saw the image there, too. Since then, I've seen the image through www.sailormoon.org. Maybe the staff can explain this.
(Browser: Firefox 2.0.0.6)
2007-08-10 22:38:58
It's my fault guys. In a rushed attempt to get the contest up for August, i directly connected to the image library. That, of course, uses your quota. Anyone at 0 points naturally can't see the image. Gomen gomen gomen!
I'll be in contact with Jen to get it all sorted out. it WILL be fixed before the contest is over, so keep those entries around, you'll need them!
